Gathered in the frost

January has arrived with sub-zero temperatures. I felt it in my fingers as I tried to arrange the treasures I had found, propping them into the snow at a precise angle. With the help of snowdrifts, I was experimenting with creating a vertical composition for the first time.

The stark contrast of the snow has always felt challenging, but having sometimes put together winter arrangements with barely any snow at all, I decided to accept the conditions and take on the challenge. After all, it is the most dominant element of the season.

For some reason, this time I find myself longing for spring and sunlight more than in previous years. I have to consciously remind myself to let the skiers ski. Spring and the tulips will arrive!

The Collection of treasures is my Instagram photo project. Four times a year, one for each season, I create a composition of the plants available in the garden. You can find all four seasons on Instagram with the hashtag #harjunpelto.
