Onnenlinnut pattern

In the Onnenlinnut (“The Birds of Fortune”) pattern, sweet little birds bring plenty of good luck: Each one carries a lucky clover or even two.

The design has been finalized in vector graphics, making it suitable for both small and large surfaces. These playful, curious, and gentle birds of imagination could build a soft nest on pillows and bedding, or deliver lucky messages on cards and clothing. Shades of green inspired by clover, or sky blue, suit the pattern especially well.

While sketching the birds, I remembered a line from a baby congratulations card: “Everything about you is tiny, except the fortune you brought.” That gave me the idea to draw the clovers.

I shaped their leaves with soft curves and hid heart shapes among them. Those are like tiny messages of luck, waiting to be discovered on a closer look.

The images also feature two other designs from the same pattern family, see also Onnenbingo (“The Lucky Bingo”) and Onnen piilo (“The Hidden Luck”) patterns.

The Onnelinnut pattern can be found in the pattern library of Patternsfrom Agency, which represents Finnish textile design. It is available for licensing for international use and a variety of applications. In addition to being easily scalable, the colorways can also be customized as needed!
