A table full of dreams

On this inspiration trip, we visited a friend’s lovely new home in Helsinki. In addition to the stunning interior, we were served inspiration in the form of good company and dream mapping – that is, crafting vision boards.

Our friend group’s annual dream mapping get-together dates back over ten years now. Over the years, both the participants and locations have changed, and sometimes each of us has created our own vision board remotely.

Last year on Instagram, I described us as being “in Maria’s beautiful, art-filled home.” The description still holds true, even though Maria & co have now a new address. The large, light-filled kitchen table was the perfect spot to dream, cut, and glue.

There are surely as many ways to dream map as there are people who do it. We usually work with a mixed stack of magazines and catalogues. You can browse them with a plan – like looking for interior design inspiration – or go more intuitively, picking out any images, colors, textures, or moods that catch your eye. Sometimes themes emerge only later.

My own approach is a bit of both. This year, a big section of my board focused on garden dreams. A large piece of text reading “Kaunis arki” (meaning “beautiful everyday life”) summed up quite clearly one of my main hopes; that the home renovation chaos at home will one day be finished.
