Lehtilinjat pattern
Like the Niittykukkia pattern shown previously, the original sketch for the Lehtilinjat (Leaf lines) pattern was in the sketchbook I sent to the Brooklyn Art Library’s Sketchbook Project collection. (You can read the unfortunate story of the sketch library here.)
The pattern features leaf-shaped elements with a clear rhythm, but on closer inspection, each shape has subtle variations that bring the surface to life. Although I finalize the patterns as vector graphics on the computer, their shapes are always based on hand-drawn elements.
What is particularly interesting in the pattern is how the eye perceives the elements and the negative space, and how the leaf stems create lines that divide and structure the rhythm.
Patterns available for licensing from the Patternsfrom Agency pattern library come with three ready-made colorways designed to coordinate with other patterns in the collection. However, the colors can easily be modified.
The Lehtilinjat (Leaf lines) pattern is a part of my Kesä kukassa collection, which includes also the title pattern Kesä kukassa (Summer in bloom) and Niittykukkia (Blooming meadow) pattern design. All these can be licenced through the pattern library of Patternsfrom Agency.
