Niittykukkia pattern

The first draft of the Niittykukkia (Blooming meadow) pattern was a colour test, and the original version was in the sketchbook I sent to the Brooklyn Art Library’s Sketchbook Project collection.

A few years ago, when the collection was being relocated, a fire broke out in a transport truck and part of the sketchbooks were destroyed. Later the entire collection was discontinued. I don’t know the fate of my sketchbook, but fortunately I had photographed all my sketches.

Usually sketching comes easily, and ideas end up captured on all kinds of little scraps of paper, quickly and without hesitation. However, when the original Sketchbook Project sketchbook arrived, I had a fear of the blank page, knowing that this particular book would become part of the world’s largest sketchbook library.

To get the creative process started, I began by making plant themed colour tests on the first spread of the sketchbook. Later I created vector versions from them and constructed a pattern surface from the elements.

The Niittykukkia pattern can easily be adapted for many different products by adjusting the scale. Vector format allows the size to be modified without compromising the quality of the design.

The Niittykukkia (Blooming meadow) pattern is a part of my Kesä kukassa collection, which includes also the title pattern Kesä kukassa (Summer in bloom) and Lehtilinjat (Leaf lines) pattern design.

All these can be found in the pattern library of Patternsfrom Agency and are available for licensing for international use and a variety of applications. In addition to being easily scalable, the colorways can also be customized as needed!
