Kevätkukkia pattern
The Kevätkukkia (“Spring flowers”) pattern is inspired by the early surprises of the flowerbed – the ones whose anticipation begins already in autumn, when bulbs are planted into the soil. By the time spring arrives, some flowers emerge just as expected, while others appear as delightful surprises, in forgotten spots or as varieties one no longer remembers planting. This gentle unpredictability is part of a garden’s charm.
The pattern depicts classic early spring bloomers: Crocuses and scillas, which bring color to the landscape just when it's needed the most.
The idea for the pattern started from the scattered appearance of individual flowers or small clusters here and there, with an initial focus on shapes and rhythms; I considered the colors only later. I first sketched the elements in black and pink, as the strong contrast of clear colors best highlights the forms and their rhythm.
The floral motifs in the Kevätkukkia pattern also work beautifully as individual decorative elements (so-called placement prints). The pattern is vectorized, which means it can be easily scaled and recolored as needed!
The Kevätkukkia pattern can be found in the pattern library of Patternsfrom Agency, which represents Finnish textile design. It is available for licensing for international use and a variety of applications.
