Päivänkakkarat pattern

The name of the pattern Päivänkakkarat means Daisies in English. The first version of the pattern was a digital illustration.

The illustration was not made into a repeat, so it would not have repeated seamlessly as printed on fabric. In addition, the number of colours had not been limited, making it suitable only for digital printing. For traditional textile printing techniques, I created a repeating version of the pattern, in which the motifs flow seamlessly.

All the elements are now also vectorised, making it easy to adjust the colours and scale of the pattern without compromising quality.

At the design stage, I do not yet think about the final colours. The most important thing is that the areas are clearly distinguishable from one another. For example, in the process image below, I have sketched out how the leaves continue across the surface.

Daisies carry a great deal of symbolism. Today they are often associated with peace and happiness, while in the Victorian era they also represented purity and innocence.

Perhaps the most fascinating idea, however, is the connection to secrets and the ability to keep them, or the small hidden riddles in artworks where daisies served as a clue.

So here we have a pattern full of secrets!

The Päivänkakkarat (Daisies) pattern is a part of a collection which includes also patterns Kiemurat (Curves) and Nuppuset (Buds). They go well togerther with the Kesä kukassa (Summer in bloom) collection too.

All these patterns are available for licensing from the Patternsfrom Agency’s online pattern library. Adjustements to scale and colors are possible!
